Grades matter, but they move slowly and can hide the details. Track specific skills, homework accuracy, confidence, pacing, missed question patterns, and whether the learner can explain the idea without help.
Set a baseline at the beginning. A short diagnostic, first quiz, or sample assignment gives everyone something concrete to compare against later.
Review progress regularly
Every few sessions, ask what improved, what still feels hard, and what the next focus should be. Good tutoring plans adjust based on evidence, not habit.
