What Questions Should You Ask Before Hiring a Tutor?
May 3, 2026 · Talon Tutoring TeamAsk about the plan
Start with questions that reveal how the tutor thinks. Ask what they would do in the first session, how they identify gaps, how they adapt when a student is confused, and what a realistic improvement timeline looks like.
Strong tutors answer in plain language. They do not promise instant grades, and they do not treat every student the same. They explain how they will diagnose, teach, practice, and review.
Ask about proof
Credentials matter, but proof of teaching matters too. Ask for relevant experience, examples of students they have helped, how they measure progress, and how parents or learners will know whether the work is paying off.
If you use Talon, progress tracking, study plans, and parent dashboard summaries can support that conversation. The tutor still matters most, but the platform should make good teaching easier to see.
