What to Include in a Tutor Job Description

June 4, 2026 · Talon Tutoring Team

Describe the teaching need clearly

A good tutor job description starts with the subject, learner level, session format, schedule, expected outcomes, and any curriculum or exam requirements. Vague posts attract mismatched applicants.

Include the kind of student support expected: homework help, test prep, study skills, enrichment, remediation, or long-term coaching. Each requires a different teaching approach.

Set expectations for professionalism

List required qualifications, preferred experience, communication expectations, preparation time, progress reporting, and tools the tutor will use. If parents or learners expect updates, say so upfront.

Talon's instructor marketplace and LMS workflows are designed to support this clarity. A strong job description helps tutors understand not only the subject, but the standard of service.
